Update: I have since discovered that a simple and user-friendly program exists that will allow a person to make their own custom themes (with tutorials to help show them how). When I have a bit of free time, I'll have to try this program out. As usual, what I specifically want has been hard to find; hence one of my favorite mottos:

"If what you want does not exist, make it yourself."

As of now, I want a stellar Halloween theme and a Sytherin theme where all the icons are custom and fantasy-based. I found an OK Sytherin theme, but the main screen image isn't great and half of the icons look like modern muggle squares. I suspect the creator got tired halfway through and gave up making cool Harry Potter icons. I do wish they had at least chosen archaic images for the remaining icons! *sigh* The definition of "theme" is that the look of all the elements either match or compliment each other.

Assuming that Mr. Joel is a victim of the old adage - you can only write good poetry when you're miserable?

Alas, too many folks (about 95%) still believe that antiquated notion. With discipline and practice, one can write any sort of poetry at will, in any emotion desired or felt, regardless of the basic state of happiness or misery one is currently in.

I stumbled on this revelation, actually, when I decided I wanted a poem at the start of my chapters in "Grimmie", as some of my favorite authors had. How to write cool poems while happy? I took an actor's approach. I pretended I was Grimmie, and imagined the sort of cryptic verse he might write. With some practice, it just started to flow. Now I can write cool poetry whenever the mood strikes or the story demands, in any POV or mood, no matter what mood I'm personally in at the time.

I hate to see poets enslaved to the lie of "only misery makes good poetry". Perhaps this could be a future panel topic!

(But I still say the subject of Mr. Joel's song above is a dangerous psycho hose beast. A hard fact to ignore, no matter how much I enjoy the melody line). ;)

It was recently brought (again) to my attention that Mr. Joel goes through periods of good and okay music. His edgiest, most melodic, and memorable stuff, however, seems to coincide with a terrible breakup, while the rest is on a happy note but doesn't seem as emotional.

In other words, Billy's best for us comes from his own misery. Case and point? Just read the lyrics above and guess where his mind was at.

Update: This effort is technically a bust. My former attempt was only recording the currently playing show on a given channel, and not the DVR program I thought I was recording onto a disc. I've since found out that you cannot take a DVR recorded show and move it anywhere else successfully, due to the DVR recording process changing the file into something that just won't play on any other media device.

Alas, this thwarts my plans to have whole collections of Haunted Evidence, Psychic Detectives, etc. *sigh*

I even hunted online to see if some of these computer/cable wizards had discovered a way to put DVR recordings onto a disc, but no dice. There will be much tearing of sackcloth and gnashing of teeth....

Update: I decided it was time to send the poetry muse to higher education. She's back now, and I am so proud of her! And now I can write sweet love poetry whenever I want, too. Mind you, my "sweet love poetry" usually ends up having a weird or twisty angle to it. I doubt if Hallmark is going to be knocking on my door any time soon, begging me to work for them....

Jack Burton: "Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, 'Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.'"
